Behold, the frijole pinto which translates to “painted bean”. The pinto got it’s named from it’s speckled exterior. When cooked, the spots disappear and turn into a light pinkish hue with a creamy texture. Pinto beans are commonly used as the main ingredient in refried beans. They can also be mashed and used inside burritos. With their mild flavor, they make a great addition to soups, chilis or salads for an extra protein boost.
